(St. Mary’s City, Md.) Thursday, July 21, 2022 — St. Mary’s College of Maryland hosted the National Hispanic Institute’s immersive leadership experience for high school students, called the American Lorenzo de Zavala Youth Legislative Session (LDZ) from July 10-17, 2022. This was the first time that the NHI program was offered at the College. NHI brought its flagship program to St. Mary’s College to further its mission to bring immersive, in-person leadership education experiences to top Latino high school students, in order to develop the next generation of Latino leaders.

This version of the LDZ — as the program is known to the more than 100,000 alumni who have developed leadership skills through NHI – saw more than 160 students from across the U.S., as well as the Dominican Republic, Mexico and Panama. The program celebrated its 40th year, maintaining its innovative approach to public policy education with wide-ranging applications and community building among its high school participants.
