Quantum is projected to become a $1 trillion sector in the next few decades, delivering novel computing, communications, and sensing applications with immense national security and commercial impact. Maryland is already a global leader in quantum science and engineering, and is well-positioned to reap the economic benefit as these transformational technologies are starting to transition to use. Dr. John Sawyer, Executive Director of the Mid-Atlantic Quantum Alliance, will provide an overview of what “quantum” really means, how the regional quantum ecosystem is growing, and the opportunities for Southern Maryland to be a key partner in helping to develop and scale quantum technologies, use-cases, workforce, and infrastructure. No prior knowledge of quantum or STEM fields is required. This will be a hybrid event at the USMSM SMART Building; space is limited so registration is required.

NOTE:  When registering, attendees will indicate if they plan to participate in person or online. In-person participation is limited to 25 attendees.

ABOUT THE MID-ATLANTIC QUANTUM ALLIANCE
The Mid-Atlantic Quantum Alliance was formally launched in January 2020 to accelerate moving quantum science and engineering to use and further enhance the region’s primacy in a field that promises to revolutionize society. This alliance brings together world-leading quantum expertise from academia, industry, government agencies, laboratories and research centers with a presence in the region. The MQA serves as an inclusive forum, facilitated by the University of Maryland, for its members to engage and collaborate with each other on education, global thought leadership and building a vibrant and diverse ecosystem to support quantum innovation.
