Join the St. Mary's Community in welcoming Dr. Christina Ewig as she presents her research on women and indigenous groups in Latin American politics. Her talk, "Women’s and Indigenous Political Representation in Ecuador: Political Parties and Intersectionality," examines the political incorporation of women and ethnoracially marginalized groups in Ecuador during the late 20th and early 21st centuries.

Professor Ewig is currently a fellow in the Latin America Program at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars. Dr. Ewig is also professor of public affairs and faculty director of the Center on Women, Gender and Public Policy at the Humphrey School of Public Affairs at the University of Minnesota. Professor Ewig’s research centers on the politics of gender and race in Latin America. She has published widely on gender, race and social policy reforms in Latin America. Her current research investigates whether the rise of women and indigenous peoples into political office in Latin America has made a difference for the kinds of policy that is produced. As faculty director of the Center on Women, Gender and Public Policy, Professor Ewig works to stimulate research, teaching and public engagement on gender and its intersections with other forms of inequality.
