Del. Brian Crosby 2025-26 SY Academic Scholarship Application

Dear Scholarship Applicant:

Thank you for your interest in Del. Brian Crosby’s academic scholarship for the 2025-26 academic year! This scholarship is intended to assist St. Mary’s County students in furthering their education and pursuing their career goals. Del. Crosby strongly encourages students who will be first-generation college students and/or those who will pursue a certificate or licensure as part of a technical education to apply.

In order to apply, you must be a resident of Maryland Legislative District 29B, which covers the southern portion of St. Mary’s County, including some areas of California, Lexington Park, Great Mills, Ridge, and others. If you are unsure whether you live in District 29B, you may confirm by using the Lookup option on the Maryland General Assembly’s website linked below. You may apply as either a full-time or part-time student, however, you must be taking at least 6 credits per semester to qualify as a part-time student under Md. Code, Educ. § 18-504. If you have applied for this scholarship in the past, you may apply again as long as you remain a qualified student. This scholarship does not automatically renew. Students must reapply each year.

In addition to the application, Del. Crosby requests a resume, a copy of your most recent official or unofficial transcript, and a personal statement. In this personal statement, Del. Crosby and his scholarship committee would like to learn more about the educational goals and ambitions of each applicant. This statement will ideally describe how the scholarship will help you achieve your goals, and should be kept under 300 words. Letters of recommendation are also recommended, but not required.

This scholarship may be used at out-of-state schools only if your major is not available in-state or if you are a Maryland resident serving in the military and stationed out-of-state. The MD Higher Education Commission (MHEC)’s Office of Financial Aid must recognize your major as “unique” before the scholarship may be applied. Please contact MHEC (www.mhec.state.md.us) to confirm your unique major status and learn more about eligibility requirements.

All students attending community, undergraduate, graduate, or certificate/licensure career programs may apply for the scholarship. Students who are pursuing certification or license must be enrolled at an accredited community college or private career school.  Scholarships will not be awarded to certification/licensure students enrolled in an unaccredited or four-year institution.

This scholarship is for a single academic year. You must reapply for the scholarship each academic year.

Please fill out the scholarship application form below along with your required documents no later than March 15, 2025. If you have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to contact us!

Sincerely,

The Office of Del. Brian Crosby
District 29B – St. Mary’s County
