On January 12, the SJD ensemble will present the Spirit of Innovation & Freedom at the Patuxent River Naval Air Museum. The museum program will be an exciting event centered around innovation and freedom. It will include a panel on improvisation, unconventional thinking, and the similarities in the process of innovation across disciplines. Dominic Fragman, co-founder of The Spirit of Jazz & Democracy, will moderate the panel which will include master musician, Paul Murphy, the conceptual designer of the F-16 and A-10, Pierre Sprey, as well as Matt Scassero, Director of the University of Maryland Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) Test Site. Following the panel, the SJD ensemble will give a concert of 100% improvised music which has been recognized as a new direction in jazz and art by Oxford's Grove Dictionary of American Music. The ensemble will include master musicians Paul F. Murphy and Larry Willis, as well as poet laureate Jere Carroll and Dominic Fragman.
